This is obviously a problem with your X-windows libraries,
about which I know nothing.
However, I would make the point that the vast majority of TeX users
do not in fact use or need the MFwindows stuff.
It is not necessary unless you are planning on using Metafont creatively.
It would be nice if there was a simple switch
which just caused MFwindows to be omitted,
or a dummy program substituted.
Maybe there is?
